Natural Features

Located in the low foothills of the Calapooya Mountains, Pine Meadows is surrounded by a diverse mixture of marshland, coniferous forests, and grasslands.
The area is managed to provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species, including waterfowl, black-tailed deer, upland game birds, songbirds, bald eagles, osprey, and many other species.
Visitors can see rare birds like the purple martin, the willow flycatcher, and the yellow-breasted chat in the lake area. Osprey and purple martins nest in nearby structures.
Recreation

Cottage Grove Lake and its shoreline, set in the gently rolling hills of the Willamette Valley, are used for numerous outdoor activities both on land and on water. There are boat ramps at Lakeside Park and Wilson Creek Park nearby, giving visitors easy access to the lake for boating and fishing.
Families can use the swim beach or picnic along the shore. The lake is also a designated stop along the Big River Loop of the Willamette Valley Birding Trail, a self-guided driving tour that includes 138 birding hotspots.
